D. Konstantinovskiy, E. Voznesenskaya, G. Cherednichenko Russian Youth at the Turn of XX–XXI Centuries: Education, Employment, Social Well-being. — M., 2014. — 548 p.

The book contains the results of studies those represents Russian youth. Studies covered a wide range of sociological problematic: general and vocational education, rural and urban youth, students and workers.

At the first part, materials of the longitudinal study of educational and professionaltrajectories of young people for over 10 years are analyzed. Graduates of high schools, vocational schools and colleges at the Novosibirsk region were surveyed. Their life trajectories were studied both by quantitative and qualitative sociological methods. The study showed the specificity of the trajectories of various youth groups. Factors determining socialization of young people (cultural and financial capital of theparental family, its social status, level of urbanization of residence, etc.) have an effect on the forming of educational and vocational orientations, as well as a real choice of places to study and work. Later on, the accumulated impact of educational resources on the development of life trajectories increases.

The second part presents the results of study of objective and subjective characteristics of modern Russian young workers. Data about their social behavior in the spheres of education and labor is considered. Close attention is focused on the formation of young workers’ human capital and their social wellbeing. Survey of one thousand of young workers in industrial plants of 13 regions revealed their training resources and the main types of educational and occupational trajectories. Then, interviewing of young workers was followed. Their needs and motivations in the fields of education and labor were studied; analysis of current challenges those young workers meet was done.

An employed student – this ambivalent and little-investigated phenomenon is considered in the third part of the book. Authors use data received by the survey in 24 Russian cities. Motivation of employed students, forms of employment, employment’s influence on progress in studies, budget structure of working students etc. are analyzed. The research has allowed to determine that an employed student is a new social actor with high labor motivation, more adapted to modern realities of market economy, an active subject of transformations of Russian society.
